Automation Engineer

SimoTech is looking to hire an Automation Engineer to join its Process Automation department to support the automation systems at a client site in Cork. The automation engineer will work within the automation department to provide automation support and automation solutions to manufacturing and support operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and specification of control systems.
  • Development of control strategies for operations and manufacturing systems.
  • Devising functional requirements for control systems.
  • Preparation of control system graphics.
  • Phase and sequence logic development and design.
  • Coding in Distributed Control System (DCS) language.
  • Software testing of automation system functionality.
  • Batch software configuration.
  • Project Management of automation projects.
  • Development and execution of validation strategies.
  • Development and execution of validation documentation.
  • Perform routine computer system preventative maintenance checks.
  • Work on the site wide systems (make programming changes/additions, provide process advice and troubleshooting for day-to-day operations, perform maintenance on the systems – back-ups etc., configure and make changes to batch application software, troubleshoot and respond to system events).
  • Perform loop tuning activities.
  • Responsible for computer system changes for new product introduction activities – including the incorporation of HAZOP recommendations into computer system design, making automation design changes and associated software updates, batch configuration).
  • Degree in Chemical Engineering, Applied Physics and Instrumentation, Electrical or Electronic Engineering or qualifications in other relevant engineering discipline with appropriate experience.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in the Pharmaceutical Industry.
  • Working knowledge of Distributed Control Systems.
  • Understanding of IT platforms such as networks and servers.
  • Self motivated.
  • Demonstrated team work abilities.
  • Knowledge of GMP’s, regulatory requirements , computer system validation.
  • Very good written and verbal communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
